TUITION DAYS

There are 13 modules comprising lectures and movement learning during which we cover the following:
  • Introductory Module, including joints and planes of movement
  • Pelvis and Spine
  • Breathing and Relaxation
  • Stability (Centring)
  • Shoulder Girdle
  • Hip and Knee
  • Ankles, Feet, Wrists, Hands
  • Anatomy Review Day
  • Classical Pilates
  • Precision of Movement
  • Client Enrolment and Assessment
  • Lesson Plans and Teaching Skills
  • Last Day Module, completing the course, teaching a class
The tuition days are followed by a combination of self-study, assessments and practical learning, as outlined below:

Practical Assessment
A one-hour assessment where students demonstrate their knowledge of the core exercises before beginning their supervised teaching period.

Supervised Teaching
This is a key phase of the course where students learn and refine their practical teaching skills under the guidance of experienced Body Control Pilates® teachers who are part of a network of ‘Supervising Teachers’ throughout Southern Africa. This period commences after the end of the formal tuition sessions, and involves students assisting in classes whilst under supervision. This period is open-ended (typically 50 hours) and students receive a 'sign-off' when a senior supervising teacher considers that they have reached the required level of teaching skills in order to teach their final Assessment Class.

Final Teaching Assessment
This involves the submission of a series of lesson plans to show how a group class is progressed over a six week period. The student is then assessed teaching one of these lessons to fellow students.

Written Examination
All students must pass a multiple choice written examination on anatomy. This is taken any time after the course tuition days.

Theory Essay Questions
Students must complete 2 essay questions on Body Control Pilates theory.

Outcome
Upon graduation, students are awarded a Certificate in Body Control Pilates Matwork and are eligible to become a member of the Body Control Pilates Association of South Africa.
